In a reality where only black and white exists in the beginning, there is only one person who can bring the beauty of color to another person's world the soul mate. Charlie Ravensdale, a genderqueer student at a small New York college, never thought that color would reach them. They doubted its very existence. But, when an unlikely encounter with bubbly student Lassiter "Lasso" McGillan breathes a colorful new light into both of their worlds, Charlie becomes entranced in the new world unfolding before them, and will do anything to experience every color that they never believed in. Lasso, however, sees this new color coming from a different source, or so she thinks. Her confusion and pursuit of false destiny quickly threatens to send both of them back into black and white forever.

I don't usually review books, though I read several a week. But, I felt a drive to review this particular book simply for the fact that I very nearly passed it by. With the innundation of those dime-a-dozen kindle unlimited erotica books every day, it is easy for good books to be pushed aside because readers just don't notice them with how many books are coming out every day.By now it might be obvious that I very much enjoyed reading this novel. The storyline turned out to be surprisingly sweet, there was sexual content but it was not highly explicit, the ending was satisfying, the language was engaging- though there were typos, there were no more than you would expect in any novel. It is not often that there is a genderqueer romance novel, and I really liked how the author handled that throughout the novel. At some points, a particular character was incredibly frustrating, but that is a sign of an engaging story.
That said, my main praise for this book is the background for it; you go through life colorblind until a time that meet your soul mate, at which point you begin to see in colors. It is such a simple mechanic that they created, but it is almost poetic and it also opened up the story for the author- they were able to take it into so many directions from this one background note.
I, of course, recommend this book. Especially for the price. A solid romance novel that I almost missed. 5/5.
