An excellent primer on English politics in the period of the 12th to the 17th century, as well as the Magna Carta itself. The book is well written and easy to understand, providing helpful definitions for the many archaic words used in the Magna Carta. The authors show concisely how the government's power to tax is at the root of so much political conflict and often leads to oppression. The authors also show how the Magna Carta itself was reinterpreted over the centuries to provide support for the development of the English Parliament and for revolutionary ideas that honestly did not have and could not have had any explicit basis in the original document.
