The book itself was fine - light, fluffy chic lit with some amusing moments. But I have never seen such atrocious editing in my life. Whole words are missing on several pages (it appears that the word "okay" somehow got deleted everywhere it started a sentence or paragraph. It is very odd). Someone who is named Adam is randomly called Harry at one point. One sentence says, "I don't want to go to school tomorrow" when the speaker is talking about work (and isn't even in school). There are other typos everywhere. It really detracts from the story.Tags : A Girl Like You [Gemma Burgess] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. A Girl Like You Gemma Burgess 9781847561909 Books Reviews
I'm tempted to say I hate it.The heroine got on my nerves pretty bad. She's witty, complaining and you can't feel sorry for her, because she irritates the hell out of you. it had practically no storyline other than this girl who went through a break up and is now desperately looking for men. and she finds a friends who starts teaching her how to date like a man. stupid, not funny and more that misogynistic. but as always, with books like this, they save the best for the end. therefore the 2 stars and not just 1. )
Read this romance if you're looking for sassy humor, a real and credible plot, skillful writing that pops and sizzles, and a little dash of profanity. The story stays PG-13, but it's so well-written that it's more than refreshing to read. As for the descriptions of modern dating, it couldn't ring more true. Highly recommended. I bought the book when I was only 3 pages into the sample, and it was money well spent.
With. This. Book. I am one of those readers who likes to play Sherlock Holmes (tries to figure out/guess what happens next before it actually does). Not possible with this book. Could not put it down. Related to the characters greatly. I want more!! If you're on the fence about it. Just do it!

Abby's POV
HEA
Abigail broke up with her boyfriend of seven years and started renting out a room from Robert, her sister's fiancee's friend. He teaches her how to be brutal and in control while in the dating world.
What a fun read. I love all crassness, honesty, and sexiness of it. I might even need to start saying fucknuckle on a regular basis.

This book reminded me of how much I love British chick-lit. It was quite long for that type of story but super enjoyable. I could not put it down
This book followed a pretty standard chick-lit formula so you knew what was going to happen in the end but it didn't make the anticipation any less. By the time the ending was nearing I was glued to the story, unable to tear my eyes away. I swooned my way through the final chapters. I LOVED these characters.
A lot happened in this book but it never felt drawn out and long. I have said it before and I’ll say it again - one of my biggest book peeves is finishing a book and feeling like I didn't get to know the characters. That was absolutely not the case in this book. By the time the story ended you knew all of the characters inside out and adored them all.
This book actually gave me some Fiona Walker Kiss Chase vibes. The story was not at all similar, just the same loving feelings. Comforting, like snuggling up under a duvet with a hot choc on a rainy day. Complete satisfaction.
Quick note – there’s a ton of swearing in this book so if you don’t like that then you might want to avoid it.
There were parts of this book that I loved. The relationship and the dialog between Abby and Robert is great and I enjoyed the first person perspective. The fact that Abby sometimes spoke directly to the reader was a fun twist. I loved that they were good friends first and I appreciated that for once an author took the time to really develop that relationship in depth over time instead of having them lust after one another at first sight for no apparent reason as most books do. There was a lot of swearing, which didn't bother me but obviously some reviewers found it excessive. I did feel like I needed detox after all the drinking they did. 3/4 of the book was spent drunk at bars or parties and that got a little sad frankly.
Robert is a good character – he’s sweet, funny and reliable but has his issues (he’s a man whore). Abby on the other hand, is funny but otherwise pretty unlikable. When she’s not helpless, whiny and indecisive she is heartless and mean. At the beginning of the book she is needy to the point of ridiculousness and then suddenly becomes an overconfident, mean bitch. It was hard to see what Robert liked about her and I spend most of the book aggravated at her behavior. Someone this self-absorbed is hard to root for. When she does fall for someone he is a complete jerk that treats her very badly, which she assures us only makes him more attractive to her. Seriously?
Spoiler Alert Then she finally gets together with Robert, only to run out and leave while he is sleeping and I’d had it. I could barely finish the book I was so annoyed. She belatedly realizes that she loves him and that she messed up and it’s all her fault and decides to do…..Nothing….Go home and forget about it….. Not apologize and try to fix it, just walk away. I literally hated her at that moment. Once again, Robert fixes everything for her and makes the decision for her. Of course it ends Happily-Ever-After but I was left wondering if Robert couldn’t have done better.
I absolutely loved this book! I'm not usually a fan of romantic comedies movies, but the romantic comedy plot of this book is dynamite. Such an engaging and quick read. I liked it so much I've read it three times, and will probably read it again. It would be perfect for a plane ride, lounging on the beach or pool side, or when you're sick on the couch (how I read it). The characters are likable and relatable. It was a funny, well-paced and thoughtful story line. Gemma Burgess has a witty, natural, conversational tone to her writing that works incredibly well. I really enjoyed how the main character Abigail talks to the reader at points during the story too. It makes it stand out from other books and gives it a fun, informal feel. I highly recommend "A Girl Like You" to anyone who wants an uplifting read with a guaranteed happy ending!
