I read the first Bell Harbor Novel and enjoyed it a lot. With this one, I laughed out loud several times--the author has a way with funny metaphors and one-liners--but the ending was a letdown, because basically it ends after Evie and Tyler's first big fight, which is not where a romance novel typically ends and it just was not... satisfactory. The May-December aspect of the story was interesting, and maybe whatever page constraints the author had meant she really couldn't get into it--but that makes it all the more disappointing.

Evie, a successful cosmetic surgeon and 35 year old single woman moves to small town (Bell Harbor). She is surrounded by people who make it their mission to get her married. After her parents decide to re-marry, she becomes focused on finding the perfect man. She even has a list of criteria, because that is how she has lived her life so far--list of rules and criteria.

Tyler, a local boy who dropped out of school to take care of his family is in need of stitches after a mishap with a jetski and dock. Evie walks into the ED to stitch his perfect face. She is immediately attracted to him but knows he doesn't fit any of the criteria on her list.

After a series of bad dates, she and Tyler have a date. After spending some quality time together, she realizes that her criteria meant nothing, what really mattered was the person--not the degree and income.

Evie has an awesome group of friends, they have great senses of humor. She is pretty wound tight. Tyler has the required insane family and baggage. He is laid back and casual.

It was a nice, easy beach read. A happy ending. Isn't that what we all want ? The characters were funny and relatable. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more in this series.
Dr. Evelyn Rhoades doesn't welcome her 35th birthday, nor the surprise birthday celebration her coworkers at work throw for her. It seems everyone, including her mother, her coworkers, and even her closest friends want to help find a husband for her. And Evie suddenly feels her biological clock loudly ticking.
When she is called upon to sew up an accident victim's facial injuries, she finds herself unexpectedly attracted to him - his flirty remarks, his body, and especially his beautiful eyes. But he is obviously too young for her.
Instead of acting on her attraction to him, Evie is encouraged by her friend Gabby to try the Bell Harbor online dating service. They check out the site, and Gabby signs Evie up - then proceeds to arrange dates for her. Of course, the resulting dates are all pretty bad. Meanwhile,Evie keeps running into Tyler everywhere she goes, especially while on her dates.
In pretty typical romance fashion, Evie resists her attraction to Tyler, her emergency room heartthrob, because he does not meet her carefully enumerated criteria for a husband.
Like Ms Brogan's first book in the Bell Harbor series, The Best Medicine is loaded with funny double-entendres and humorous sex scenes. It is a pleasant, easy read perhaps best enjoyed by reading aloud with your best friend. Stories like this series are more fun when shared.
I enjoyed most of this book, it was light but charming, well written, lots of humor and the story kept me involved and interested. However, the abrupt, hurried ending was a real turnoff. In her afterword Ms. Brogan basically tells us why when she thanks her friends for helping her pack up her house while she finishes her book 3 days before her move. The ending was rushed and unrealistic which is a shame. It would have been far better for her readers had she shelved the story until after she was resettled instead of allowing herself to be rushed. Probably by her publishers. One other thing, I saw that several readers battered on about this book not being a "clean" book, as if sex is dirty. Crass and vulgar was another complaint. This is simply not true and I find it very difficult to even begin to understand where these women come from and their distortion of life and love. What's even worse is when this distorted view is stated to be "Christian." There are plenty of romances that have turned me off too, but this is certainly not one of them.
This was such a lovely story and I couldn't put it down! Her characters were very real and she brought up a very current problem worldwide. So many very lovely women in their 30's who have had good education and then careers, but who find it so hard to meet the right man! Maybe there really is a worldwide shortage of eligible men, in their 30's as well, who are unencumbered by previous hideous relationships and horrid ex wives, who try and make the poor mans life a misery, especially if there are poor children involved as well! She was right up to date with 'dating websites' and the perils so many people find, when trying to meet 'the right person'. Sometimes, like in her novel, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Loved it!
Serious physician Evelyn fights her attraction to the sexy local named Tyler after she stitches him up in the emergency room. Instead she dates losers from and online match site. The men who fit her list of a perfect guy on paper do not match what she really desires. Fun read—except for the ending. Spoiler Alert her—I thought Tyler forgave Evelyn a little too easily in the end for her interference in his life. A few more chapters were needed to deal with that issue and the book would have been much better. Still I enjoyed the light romance.
